As you’re building your diabetes care team, you’ll likely want to meet with an endocrinologist. An endocrinologist is a doctor who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes and other conditions that involve the endocrine system.

The endocrine system is responsible for producing hormones, including insulin as well as estrogen and testosterone, melatonin, growth hormone, and more.

This specialist can help:

  • Develop a diabetes care plan
  • Monitor your blood sugar levels
  • Teach you more about your health

If you’re looking for an endocrinologist, talk with your primary care provider for their recommendation and referral. Friends, family, coworkers, and others in your network may also have valuable insight if you’re comfortable asking.
